Sign up now for summer softball

by Rob Gallagher

Cleveland-North Coast Softball will be starting its 27th season on May 16. The LGBT and gay-friendly softball organization has been in existence since 1983 and looks to grow as a league every year. Last year the league had 15 teams within four divisions, over 300 players.

Every year the goal of North Coast Softball is to provide an outlet for LGBT players and gay-friendly allies to play softball in a fun, exciting, competitive environment free from discrimination.

We would like to continue to expand the league and continue to be one of the largest LGBT softball organization in the Mid-

west.

The season runs from May 16 until the playoffs in mid-August.

Over Labor Day weekend, Cleveland

teams will participate in the annual Midwest Invitational Softball Tournament, held this year in Detroit. There is also opportunity to travel with teams to other tourna-

ments.

We play double headers every Sunday, except holiday weekends, on fields at Gordon Park, off Interstate 90 at the East 72nd Street exit.

The registration fee for individuals is nominal, as most teams have sponsors. Players range from 18-year-olds to seniors. The skill level ranges from those who just want to learn to hit, catch, and have fun, to very skilled players.

Some of the special events that are planned this year are Drag Ball V, a kickoff party, teams marching in the June LGBT Pride parade, and teams traveling to tournaments in Toronto, Phoenix, Detroit, and other cities.
